(Photos by Cole Reynolds) If it’s still cold and ugly wherever you are, and you haven’t been able to get out and enjoy some racing action, then I am sorry for sharing these photos with you. I’m not doing it to tease or punish you.
The season opening NMCA West AutoX event at Fontana’s California Speedway was a riot, and we don’t just mean the crazy donuts and tire smoking action from TCI’s Evan Dailey either. We had a great time running Cole’s truck and hanging out with friends. I got to ride in Dannie Pinards killer 1956 Chevrolet and everyone on site seemed to be having a great time. I showed up late, and was lucky enough to take a couple runs with Cole during the lunch break to give him some pointers. Then I jumped in the truck and took a couple laps myself to prove to the kid that the old mans still got it. The Byrds are the on the ground Race Directors for these NMCA West events and we can’t emphasize just how well run this event was. Everyone got tons of runs, the run groups ran smoothly, and the total number of cars on site has been careful selected by the NMCA West staff to make sure each and every person on hand has as much fun as possible. Make no mistake, they could take money from another 20-50 people and put a lot more money in their pockets, but they’ve looked at this as a series that is intended to maximize the fun level and they are doing it quite well.
