Tearing Up The Tarmac At Camarillo Airport With The Speed Limit Racing Autocross Crew

Tearing Up The Tarmac At Camarillo Airport With The Speed Limit Racing Autocross Crew

(Photos by Cole Reynolds) Southern California has a LOT of automotive events going on at all times. In fact, sometimes it is too much because it is hard to decide what to do and where. Such is not the case on any weekend where the Speed Limit Racing autocross crew is throwing an autocross at Camarillo Airport. This is one of the most popular venues for the Pro Touring crowd, and since it is all about having fun and seeing how fast you can go, there is nothing but smiles in the paddock. This particular weekend, everyone was enjoying the perfect Southern California weather, and my sidekick Otis. Yep, Otis the shop dog and I cruised to Camarillo on Saturday morning with Cole in tow. We ate burgers, talked to friends, and just hung out and watched cars go around the course while Cole shot photos. I didn’t ride in or drive anything. And I really didn’t care! Which is weird.

But it was one of those weekends where Otis and I just wanted to chill and Saturday at Camarillo that is exactly what we did. Meanwhile, Corvettes, Camaros, Mustangs, Miatas, Porsches, El Caminos, Chevelles, Cobras, a Honda or two, and God only knows what else, made lap after lap on an autocross course that featured exit speeds of nearly 100 mph. And did I mention this is held at an airport? Yeah, one that has tons of traffic, including bitchin WWII bombers, trainers, and more! It was awesome to watch. Next time I will most certainly be driving.

Cole got a couple rides, including one in Casey Cronin’s bitchin C3 Vette, and also a fun ride in Jake Rozelle’s 1969 Camaro. Both of these rides put big power down through ultra wide and sticky tires and turn just as hard as they accelerate. Nobody ever expected an old Camaro or Corvette to do these kinds of things 15 years ago.

We’re going to have a bunch of photo galleries from the event this week, so make sure you check back to see all of them. Until then, here is Gallery #1. Enjoy it!
