3D Printing Fender Flares? Yep! The Guys Did Just That To Get Them Just Right For Project Binky

Project Binky has been one of my all time favorite YouTube builds in the past few years and I’m missing it terribly while it is in the body shop getting painted and ready for reassembly. Thankfully the boys at Bad Obsession Motorsport have been doing other fun stuff to keep us entertained, but they have also been assembling and detailing parts and pieces for the final assembly of the car, and making new parts off of templates and prototypes. Such is the case with the fender flares for the car. Because it is a traditional old school Mini, but with an all-wheel drive Celica drivetrain under it, the wheels stick out a wee bit and require a bigger than normal fender flare. Of course you can’t bolt something ugly on this thing, it is after all a classic Mini. So they grabbed a set of knock off Mini flares and modified them to get the coverage needed. Unfortunately the quality of the knock offs didn’t make them feel real warm and fuzzy about using them on the car.

Enter the wonderful world of 3D printing! Yep, after having the mockup flares scanned, and the shape refined, a giant 3D printer was built and put into action to make these flares. There is a lot more to the story, so check out the video below to see it all. We dig them and love how they put them together.
