If you have never seen these dinghy races, then you are missing out on a level of crazy that really only makes sense to Australians. It should come as no surprise that the people who brought us Jet Sprint boat racing would also think that throwing two people in an aluminum dinghy with an outboard that makes way too much power for it, is a good idea. And then going through a seriously challenging course that is all about quick and nasty turns that try to throw both people out of the boat is clearly required. Oh and don’t forget that the “passenger” is throwing themselves around the boat in order to make the boat handle the way it needs to in order to be as fast as possible.
To be honest, it is kind of like those crazy bastards that ride on the sidecars of the motorcycles that race in the Isle of Man TT.
Watch and see.
Video Description:
Arguably one of the more dangerous motorsports of them all. It is race day at the 2024 Riverland Dinghy Derby in Renmark, South Australia and it’s going to be a scorcher with temperatures expected to get to 43ºC/109ºF. This is going to be a hot one….. Andrew and Tahlia steer their 3.15m tinny with a 30hp Yamaha around the creeks of Renmark to secure a 2nd place in the 30hp Standard class. 4 laps complete the 100km course. Huge thank you to our sponsor Level Electrical & Data Riverland!
