Soaked History: This Footage From The 1965 Swamp Buggy Races In Naples Is Totally Wild

This is the most awesome old swamp buggy racing footage we have ever see. Taken at the OG “Mile O’ Mud” in Naples, Florida you are going to see the ancestors of today’s 1,000hp swamp buggies doing wheel to wheel battle in the muck, through the ‘Sippi Hole, and around the course. The footage is well shot and you will see some of the most freakish racing vehicles ever constructed in this one. There were clearly no rules whatsoever regarding how this stuff was constructed so you are going to see dozens of people’s “best way to do it”. Many of these rigs points toward the future in terms of the forward driving position, “driver protection”, enclosed rearward mounted engines and more. Many of them did not point toward any kind of future but are clearly the product of some totally radical home-engineering.

No, there is not sound to enjoy here because this was 8mm film but the visual more than makes up for it. The number of buggies with co-drivers is pretty wild, especially those with co-drivers who are STANDING UP as the rig is racing around the course.

Horsepower has been and will continue to be the name of the game in this sport. That and guts. You will see some machines really fall on their faces in the ‘Sippi Hole and others just power through. It’s totally great and when you see the one fully tube chassis buggy your eyes will bug out of your head like ours did. Just wild!
