When the guys over at Build Break Repeat got their hands on a rotary engine with a clutch shifted transmission from some old motorcycle project there was no doubt that only bad thoughts could come next. After all, the only thing better than a rotary powered motorcycle is a rotary powered go kart and these guys know how to have fun on four wheels less than an inch off the ground. They are nothing if not adventurous, and we love them for it. This kart seemed like a really bad idea when they got it and the engine and decided on a plan for putting the two together. But how did it turn out? Well this video gives you the first glimpse as they take it for a spin for the first time. I’ve got a few things on this one that I’m a little skeptical on, but we’ll see how it really works.
Watch the video and let us know what you think. Would you have built one? What other fun engine can you think of to put into something like this? We know that we want some tire burning go karts for sure, even though they would only get us into trouble. Trouble we can’t wait to get into though!
We’re pretty sure that we’ll see more from this little rotary powered beast.
More FUN to be had here. Really like stuff like this and the Modyssey, thanks BS. OddBall combos like this are awesome but a tricked out real race kart with a modern 4-stroke MX engine and trans. (350cc/450cc) would work too. (thinking this one might need a little more wheelbase)
Good to see young guys doing this but…the sound… like me after too much whole oat granola… (doctor’s orders). 🙂
It really needs a fart can muffler tip and a huge wing to complete the look. I feel so relieved after watching this. My wife glared at me when I played the video. It wasn’t me honey, it was the dog again!
To show how much I like these little cars (GoKart/Modyssey) when I turn my laptop on the first thing I see is the ultimate one–Capt. Jack McClures rocket kart (saw it at Fremont run 6.10@214mph–always though that was insanely impressive!!).
You can get twice the speed and performance out of the engine, if you point the air-intake air filter forward and up at a 45% slant. Then add 1/2 cup of slick 50 motor oil mixed with your normal motor oil with you next oil change , but without overfilling the oil, and the engine will run quieter and smoother with more power.
