Let me make one thing clear. I think Jet Sprint boats are some of the coolest boats ever. Big V8 power, jet drives, roll bars, and a course that looks like an autocross but with dirt banks to flip onto if something goes wrong. Hence the roll bars. But those guys are kind of pussies now that I’ve seen Extreme Dinghy racing in Australia. I know, those are strong words, and I’m sorry to use them, but damn these bastards in the dinghys are crazy! They are taking small aluminum boats, making them stronger, weighting them just right, doing all kinds of tricks to the engines, and then going out there and running the hell out of them on the water, in the swamps and rivers, through trees, stumps, land, and more. It really is crazy looking. And like with Sidecar racing on the Isle of Man, there is a Monkey riding with the driver of each boat. The Money, or at least that’s what they call the co-pilot on an Isle of Man TT sidecar, is throwing him or herself around the boat as ballast, counter balance, etc. It’s a ballet for sure. And they wear motorcycle helmets. Like that’s going to save you when you whack a tree, in a boat that looks like it was bought at Bass Pro Shops, going 60 plus mph. To say this is crazy is a vast understatement.
Watch the video. It’s cool as hell.
Freakin’ Aussies. They’ll do this bat-crap crazy stuff, yet throw you in the clink for a measly burnout.
It certainly is as skillful as the TT sidecar racing. And the “jockeys” have balls just as big as their 3-wheeled counterparts. It should be recognised as an n official sport – but the only draw back would be spilling out of the boat and ending up as a crocodile’s dinner. It beats the hell out of that annoying Aussie pastime of spending loads of money building a huge blown V8 and putting it into a small car just to burn the tyres off it!
Agree with Geordie (on this day in history!).
Great work guys!
Jay, It’s amazing I know, I actually agreed with Geordie some six or so months ago. I couldn’t beleave it. LOL
