We recently got tipped off to some cool behind the scenes, “making of” video that shows just how Pennzoil and the crew that made the film pulled off the awesome drifting scenes that we showed you last week. The video was made in Capetown, South Africa and the man given the dream job of beating the daylights out of the Hellcat Challenger was none other than Rhys Millen, the well known racer, drifter, and wheelman who has conquered all kinds of terrain and iron over the years.
Using a “Russian arm” camera mounted atop a high performance (Mercedes?) SUV they filmed lots of the scenes you see at big speeds which required not only Millen to be on his game but also the driver and crew filming the thing to be right on the money as well. Now, we’re pretty sure that Millen didn’t get annoyed when the director said, “OK, we need you to bring the car sideways through that corner, smoking the tires, and banging the rev limiter again, OK?” Hey, we wouldn’t have given the guy any trouble but we probably would have wadded up Hellcats like cord wood by the time we were done trying to do the stuff you’ll see here.
This is a neat look behind the scenes of how this short film was made and we think you will dig it. The internet has come a LONG way from the basic, low buck, lame films of old. Thank Ken Block and others who saw the potential of getting huge audience through their lap tops, tablets, desktops, and phones for all the great car stuff you see today. This one is a top 10 for sure. Oh that sound!
