Big Impact: Sheena Monk’s Direct Hit At The Corkscrew At Laguna Seca

This is the kind of video that you watch that reminds you to go and look over your safety equipment at least three times to be damn sure that everything that is supposed to be saving your sorry hide is in perfect working order. The driver of the #7 Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo, Sheena Monk, was making her debut at Weathertech Laguna Seca as part of the IMSA Lamborghini Super Trofeo racing series on Saturday, September 8th, 2018. Her debut isn’t going to be remembered fondly, we think, because the bullet point above all others is what you will see below. After making the blind crest that leads to the eighth turn at Laguna Seca, Monk lost brakes and managed to not hit William Hubbell and Randy Sellari before going straight into the two rows of tires, flipping around, and coming to rest in the sandtrap. The race was red-flagged and Monk was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center where she was checked out.

In a statement released on Sunday, September 9th, Monk had this to say:

“I have yet to review what happened with my accident yesterday at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca but I’m extremely grateful for the safety and strength of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo. I’d like to thank my family, my coach Katherine Legge, the team at Wayne Taylor Racing, IMSA, the track marshals, safety crew, Medi-vac unit, and the amazing staff at Valley Medical Center for assisting me in such tremendous fashion.”
