Down To The Ground: This 1999 Chevrolet Suburban Is Cruising Sweetness!

Down To The Ground: This 1999 Chevrolet Suburban Is Cruising Sweetness!

Just wait and see…the 1988-2000 GMT400 series of trucks will be the next classic GM truck to have, following the 1967-72 second-generation C/K and the third-generation “Rounded Line” series that we more commonly refer to as “square bodies”. They were everywhere…sport truckers slammed who knows how many of these to the ground before anointing them with billet everything, off-roaders learned to work with the independent front suspension (or just swapped out the whole front end for a solid axle anyways) and speed freaks toyed and tweaked with all manner of engines and transmissions to push past the stock engine’s offerings. They dictated GM’s designs long after the run was up and have held up well, but many have aged out. Rust has eaten away at quarter panels and cab corners. Headlight lenses have yellowed. And may luck be on your side if you wind up with Optispark and timing issues…we wish you well. But with early versions over thirty years old now, you can start to expect to see super-clean ones to appear up for grabs with a premium.

Take this 1999 Chevrolet Suburban. It’s nice and low, still wearing most of it’s original paint without any clearcoat issues and sits without interior blemishes. It’s even the rare clamshell-style rear door setup instead of the barn doors. The modifications are tasteful and mild, from the DJM lowering bits and the C-notched frame to the sound system, three-inch exhaust and the Baltierra surfboard that sits on top of the roof. Whether you are interested in adding this exact vehicle to your collection or are looking for some inspiration, keep the GM trucks in the back of your head. It’s pretty hard to go wrong with one!

Somebody around here in Mass. has a not-too-slammed two-door Blazer than is pretty sweet. I can see these becoming popular as, unlike today’s trucks, they are cheap and have not yet reached cartoon-like proportions.
