(By Tom Lohnes) – The new Cadillac Blackwing cars are out, and they’re as fast as they are good-looking.

Starting with the lesser of the two, the compact CT4-V Blackwing, which makes 472 horsepower from a twin-turbo V6, which is more than a V8-powered Chevy Camaro SS, and directs tt to the rear wheels through your choice of a 6-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic. Magnetic dampers are standard, as well as a lot of V badges. The CT4-V Blackwing’s main competitor is the BMW M3 in non-competition spec. Stacking the two up, the CT4-V comes out on top, with a few more horsepower, less weight, and a more appealing interior. Also appealing is the CT4-V Blackwing’s starting price, at a shocking $59,998, which is a whole $10,000 less.

Moving on to the bigger, badder V, the CT5-V Blackwing has the Dodge Charger Hellcat in its sights. With the same LT4 V8 as the last-gen CTS-V, the CT5-V produces an eye-watering 668 horsepower and 672 lb.-ft of torque. Power is once again routed through your choice of a manual or automatic, and 0-60 happens in 3.7 seconds, which is considerably less than a Hellcat Charger. Inside, the Hellcat doesn’t even hold a candle to the V, with carbon-fiber bucket seats, lots of quilted leather, and suede on all of the major touchpoints, such as the steering wheel and the shifter. Pricing-wise, the CT5-V Blackwing is about as much as a base Charger Hellcat Redeye, starting at $84,995.

So, which one to pick? If you want a track animal, go CT4. If you want a grand tourer with gobs of power, the CT5 is right up your alley. Good effort, Cadillac.
