Love or hate the DeltaWing, the dart-shaped car that has run LeMans, American LeMans, Petit Le Mans, and USCC, but there’s no doubt that it’s a capable beast. Created by a collaborative effort between Don Panoz and Chip Ganassi Racing, the car became controversial not only for it’s strange appearance, but for a bitter relationship with engine developer Nissan and former engineer Ben Bowlby when accusations of intellectual property theft started being thrown after the Nissan ZEOD appeared on the scene.

In this video DeltaWing driver Katherine Legge takes the closed-cockpit version of the car around Daytona on a hot lap. Keep in mind that the power plant in this car is a 1.9L four-cylinder designed by Élan. This is one pissed off ride and it certainly moves like it means business!

I love the innovation even if I can’t understand the science. In the follow up video the covers come off and the designer tries to explain in laymans terms. The sad part of the story is that no one will let it race.
