Check Out This Footage From Mettet RX, Belgium’s FIA World RallyCross Championship!

RallyCross, rally racing’s closed-circuit format, is just as awesome as the over-the-hills-and-through-the-woods version, but with the added benefit of everything being visible from start to finish for the fans. Actually, I take that back…watching this footage of Mettet RX from Belgium, to me it looks more like a bunch of guys in rally cars (a Mazda RX-8? Really?) pretending they are in a 1970’s movie police chase, just without the Dodge Monacos in hot pursuit. Honestly, can you think of a more fun form of racing for the driver as well as the fan? Dirt and tarmac, jumps are welcomed, and the drivers act like every race is the last race…all of that suits us nicely. Watching Tom Daniel Tanevik wring out that red RX-8 makes us wish the 24 Hours of Lemons series had a rallycross format. I’d be on the line with the first $500 Chrysler Fifth Avenue I could get my hands on.

RallyCross is cool enough for what it is, but it’s hardly as awesome as the over-the-hill-and-through-the-woods version…
