Historic race is so awesome because you get to see some “dream” battles that never would have happened in the period the cars come from. For instance, a Boss 302 Mustang and a GT350 would not have been dueling like they are here in 1970 because GT350s did not compete in the Trans Am and frankly the more hairy Boss 302 engine can kind of make mincemeat out of even a stiffened 289.
The one thing that the GT350 has going for it is weight, right? It may be down on power but it is also down on heft when lined up with the Boss 302. This is something that can be see in the video here, mostly in the braking zones. The lighter GT350 is able to close gaps with later braking into the corners, but once the straights arrive, the Boss goes to work and stretches the lead back out.
This is an awesome video with tons of great driving, loads of great sound, and a perfect perspective of the punishing nature Sebring presents to racers!
