Peter Brock might have had issues as a human. He might have been a bit out of his head at moments. But nobody, anywhere, can deny that the man could drive his ass off, and his record from his early days with interesting creations throughout his peak with Holden and even his forays into driving Ford-powered machines tells the tale. He won Bathurst nine times. In 1979, he claimed that he and co-driver Jim Richards took the win with the rest of the field six laps down. His first win at Mount Panorama was in 1972, which was the last year a driver was allowed to run the race solo.

Brock knew Mount Panorama front, back and sideways and drove his racing machines as if he was guided by telepathy. His style was a fan favorite for years…flat out, all-in, fully committed and almost flamboyant in how far past the limit he dared to drive. This footage from 1991 shows Brock in his first Holden in four years. Prior to, he had taken a stint in Ford Sierra RS500s, but for ’91 he was in a VN Commodore SS Group A car, and he was determined to drive it to the breaking point. What a lap!
I bleed Ford Blue, and for years Brocky was the “enemy”, the one to beat.
But I have nothing but full respect for his ability to drive a race car.

I remember watching this as a 6 year old.
It was this amazing display of car control that made me a Brocky fan till the day he died.
