Cool Old Video: Watch A Video Showcasing 1930’s Suspension Tech

I guess this can be considered “cool videos from the 1930’s” day here at BangShift, as we first started by showing you a 1936 Plymouth being put through its paces by a stunt driver (Watch the video HERE) and now we have a video showcasing the suspension technology used by Chevrolet in 1938.

This particular video is more educational than action, but personally I eat this type of content up. While the technology being shown is close to a century old, it’s really interesting to see that many of the ideas used today were available back then as well, namely coil springs, unequal length control arms, and shock absorbers. Sure, we’ve since moved light-years ahead in terms of the materials and design and have added better bushings, sway bars, multi-link rear arms, Watts links, and other trick components, but the basic building blocks were right there all that time ago. Really neat stuff.

Ah those high tech British, I have that design shock on my MGB-a 1964 with 1978 parts, no wonder they went out of business (actually work really well on a 2000 lbs. car). State of the art–1938 Chevrolet–lo tech better than no tech
