Crash And Burn: Ivo Breukers Slides Back-End-First Into The Wall At Mount Panorama During The Bathurst 12-Hour

The 2015 Bathurst 12-hour race at Mount Panorama proved to be lively, even by the standards that Bathurst is well-known for. The race was very well contested and there was quite a bit more of the safety car than most people ever wanted to see, and not just for small spins either: A bad guess on the part of Nissan driver Stefan Mucke wound up with the Bentley of David Brabham drilling a wall, and Peter Fitzgerald’s Audi managed to blast clear through one sand trap and across the track to another one, but for sheer violence it’s very hard to surpass the crash of Ivo Breukers, whose Mazda3 V8, a rear-wheel-drive car, was thumped hard enough by the Audi R8 of Felix Baumgartner (yes, the guy who parachuted from space) that it half-spun and drove straight backwards into the solid wall. Breukers walked away from this crash.
