Maybe it is because I grew up in the 1980s and saw guys like Pete Hallsmer and Wally Dallenbach Jr driving IMSA GTO prepared Mustangs that I cannot look away from cars of that decade that have IMSA style wide body kits on them. Funny thing is that which that look had me stop and look at this car, it isn’t nearly the most important thing about it. This is one of THREE 1982 Mustang GT Enduros ever built and it is basically impossible to replicate unless you find one of the body kits in the corner of a McLaren warehouse somewhere and the BBS wheels in the back of Al Capone’s vault.
Before the GT Endure there was a short-lived program that resulted in the creation of a dealer special order Mustang known as the M81. This was a turbo four package car only that had a upgraded engine by McLaren, a body that looks like the one in the photos below and an upgraded suspension. As it was, not that many people wanted a turbo four Mustang, especially one that was going to cost them a TON more than even a GT. While we do not know the exact genesis of this project we can guess that it was born out of that earlier failure by combining the wants of the people (V8 engine) and the desire to have a very impactful look to the car.
As best we can tell only three of them were ever made. The seller here claims to have done a bunch of research as to the origins of his car and how it came to be. The engine has been mildly hot rodded with a cam, some headers, and an intake manifold. The body has been completely restored and it looks awesome. The flared front and rear fenders are just sweet and the 1980s mesh BBS wheels really set the whole thing off as do the louvers on the rear window, etc.
The interior had been mildly customized over the years apparently and while the seats look stock the stitching is different than it would have been. We would get that horrid steering wheel out of there or at least recover it because in its current state it is a crime against humanity.
We think this ultra Fox is cool and the seller as a TON of info in his cad, check it out!

I have to admit, its a sharp looking car, especially at that price!
Love this era of Ford Motorsport making a comeback in road racing. Zakspeed Gtx Mustangs, Tom Gloy Trans Am, Robby Gordon, Roush GTO, etc
mother of god….that may be the single greatest Fox I have ever seen in my life….the want is deeeeeep
