We’ve shown you H1 Unlimited Hydroplanes before, but the whole concept of 200 mph boats racing hull-to-hull is good enough to bring up from time to time, we think. It takes some serious gumption to strap yourself to a three-ton, jet-powered boat that requires a scatter shield substantial enough that your exploding 4L80E wouldn’t even scratch. When the power comes from a 3,000-horsepower Lycoming T-55 helicopter turboshaft a few inches from the pilot’s (and let’s not make any bones about it; these are pilots) helmet, that kind of protection—along with F-16 canopy glass—is probably a good idea.
They also get an escape hatch in the floor and a mask with onboard air supply. The Lycoming’s vibrations surely rattle every carbon fiber and fiberglass atom on the three-ton ships and wandering out of your 30-foot-wide lane can put you in another competitor’s wake. And if that happens, you’re gonna have a bad time.
Gearhead videos do not improve with the addition of obscure music!
Slo mo and awful music ruined it. They’re fast and loud, that’s what I wanted to see and hear.
Came here to hear the elderly complain about the music. Was not disappointed.
