(Photos courtesy of Optima Batteries) – Danny Popp has won the 2014 Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational. This is the second time that he has claimed the top spot, last turning the trick in 2014 at the wheel of another Corvette. Popp is an accomplished and decorated driver with some 12-autocross national championships, event wins at places like the Holley LS-Fest, Ultimate Street Car Association, and he’s even cleaned up a Goodguys championship taking on the title last year after winning the Scottsdale showdown event. We’re going to have full coverage of the 2014 Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational through this week but until then know that the man in the blue Corvette cleaned house.
For those of you that know Popp’s racing history, it is no shocker that he did it in a Corvette. His family has been competing in said Vettes for decades and he’s well known for his blue 1972 model that has carried him to victory at many events. This car was purchased years ago fully intended to be an autocross warrior and it has been. Up until a short time ago, the car was ONLY run on autocross courses or at track days. Danny has since registered the car and it sees street duty when he is home.
We’re going to post full results when we get them because there were some surprises on the performance front from some cars and some drivers. Some we expected more from and some we expected less. That’s the beauty of an event like the 2014 Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitiational, right? You never know who is going to come out on top!
Congrats to Danny Popp on picking up a second victory at OUSCI!
And he’s STILL in a C5! Guess I’ll keep mine for sure now.
