This 1985 Buick Somerset has all kinds of racing history from when it was a runner in the SCCA Trans-Am series, the IMSA GTO class, and more recently as a vintage racer. What a unique and cool little piece this is! Built by well know race car constructor Tommy Riggins, this car was run extensively through the early 1980s and into the 1990s. Occasionally it was bodied as an Olds but most of the time it was run as a Buick. Power comes from a 362ci small block Chevy of the short stroke variety so we’re guessing it must scream like the dickens when motoring down the straights. The transmission is a Jerico and the car is 100% functional and ready to hit the vintage races.

We love this thing because it is compact and pretty unique looking. We actually don’t remember these cars racing because of how many Mustangs and Camaros there were. Competing in the Kelly Challenge Series as well, if this chassis could talk we’re guessing that it would have some great stories to tell.

Cared for its entire life, it was brought back up to snuff a few years ago before the current owner took it vintage racing. Since then it has been all over the country and now it needs a new home. Looking at the car it is not a showpiece and that is a good thing. If you are buying a race car that is too nice to race, that is a massive fail. This car presents wonderfully and has enough nicks and dings that no one will have any second thoughts about sliding through the window and hitting the starter button before ripping off some hot laps.
