(Photos by David Whealon) – David Whealon was our man on the scene at the 2014 Oak Tree Grand Prix. This was one of the events on the TUDOR United Sports Car racing series calendar and  David was itching to capture some of the action and the scene around the race at VIR. We think he did a killer job because in this gallery you will see tons of great action photos featuring full tilt versions of the sports cars we see on the street. Corvettes, Vipers, BMW Z cars, Porches, Audis, and more. This series is having its first go in 2014 and David said that the crowd and atmosphere was great.

We dig the photos of the bashed up Porsche racing around with chunks of the body hanging off and flopping in the breeze. These guys race really hard and many of the teams have factor support on some level so there’s big budgets, big egos, and a big will to win across the board. The Corvette team has been having a good season with the C7s and the Viper teams have been competitive as well. A check of the points verifies our last statement as Porsche leads the series with 276 points in the GT class, Chevrolet has 274 in second and SRT (Chrysler) has 273 in third. That is tight racing and it will come right down to the wire. We hope that the German team gets knocked off the perch before the final checkered is flown at the end of the year!
