This is one of those, “if you have to ask how much it costs,” types of scenarios. In this case we’re talking about a water pump that fits a Ferrari F40, the legendary super-car produced from 1987-1992. There were about 200 of them sent to the USA with more than 1,000 others being shipped to points across the globe. The cars were powered by a twin turbocharged 2.9L V8 engine that made about 500hp. We have no idea how “reliable” these things were as they were not designed to shuttle the kids to and fro but rather they were designed for very rich people to mostly look at and brag about while occasionally attempting to drive them (poorly).
The asking price for this water pump is $20,000. It’s a good looking water pump but even for a water pump as nice as this one is, 20-large is a tall order. Of course you can just run down to the local wrecking yard and just grab one out of the F40 section but it won’t be nearly as nice as this new old stock pump. Also, you’d have to paint the thing and it would not have the factory finish that is likely to start flaking and falling off about 15 minutes after the thing has to deal with warm coolant.
So sure, this thing could buy you a bunch of project cars, perhaps a year’s college tuition for a child, but it would also get your F40 back on the road and that’s better than those other two stupid options, right?
The most fun thing here is the fact that it sure looks to us like someone had this thing listed at $1,200 at some point. Hell, it is written on the thing in what looks like Sharpie marker. The $20k is just like inflation? Nah, the $20k is not the “buy it now” price but rather the “you’re screwed now” price if your F40 spits the bit.
That is just plain ridiculous! but I like his comments:
“Makes a great display Piece, Very Valuable”
and
“Also great to keep handy as a spare part”
Also, check out all the other parts the seller has listed…

I’m in the wrong business!
I’m not sure if you could rebuild one of those, but I do have a machine shop, and
for $20K I could darn sure try.
Maybe a few times………
20 large for the pump and the seller wants $35 for shipping ? For that price, it should be hand delivered and wrapped in gold foil ! Pull my finger, please !
I have to wonder if the actual pump part – the section with the pulley and impeller on it – was pulled off some Fiat that they made a bazillion of.
Knowing Ferrari, probably not. They make it their business to maintain the exclusivity of the brand, and have done so for a long time – it’s part of why the cars are so valuable.
God forbid their customers find out that the help has the same anything on their car.
