(By Tom Lohnes) – The Ford Bronco Sport is in high demand right now, with customers paying upwards of $50,000 for this capable CUV. Well, I guess demand was too high, because a Ford dealership just sold their factory-loaned demo car to a customer, and they are refusing to give it back.
What is different with the Demo car is really not much, except the dealer agrees not to sell the demo for a least four months after receiving it. The purpose of the demo is to give people test drives and spur interest in the model.
Well, some person unknowingly sold it, because the vehicle was accidentally parked on the lot by an unknown employee. The customer, who paid well over $45,000 for the vehicle, says he rightfully owns the vehicle and refuses to give it back. Calls are still going back and forth between dealer and customer, and compensations, ranging from cash to a pre-order for the big Bronco have been proposed. The Bronco Sport itself, being a white First Edition with the 2.0-liter engine, attracted the buyer because of it’s extremely early-build VIN number.
So, if you plan on buying a Bronco Sport, give the dealer a break and don’t drive off the lot in the car they weren’t allowed to sell.
This will get interesting…
They sold the car to him…he has every right to keep. But, I can see the dealer point here, it is for demonstration, not for sale…YET.
What the buyer realizes now…is the dealer want to sell that, particular, Bronco, at a premium, because of the low vin.
they’ll get over it, they’ll just get another, i find it hard to believe that’s the only in existence.
Car salesmen are the second oldest profession…ask dad about the first.
LOL, a friend in the early 90s had the same thing happen to him (he was the buyer), he was looking for a Z28 Camaro, came across a police spec 1LE/B4C on a lot and bought it. Same deal, dealer fought like hell to get it back (didn’t), I drove several Camaros back then and his was a total different animal (had the extra cooling/wiring too)
Was the buyer OJ Simpson?
I don’t remember, was he the driver or passenger? My God I’m old.
Sounds to me like the dealer has a personal problem. All the salespeople should have known not to sell it and one of them did.
I wouldn’t return it either.
