Going behind the scenes of a racing team is the only way to get the entire story of what it takes to get man and machine to glory, and there are far more players that anyone would normally realize. Technicians, coordinators, it doesn’t matter: anybody who is on the team supports in whatever way that they can, and that usually means that there are several jobs for everyone present. The guy who was busy wrenching on the engine so that the car will make it to the next race might be the same guy who is making dinner that night.
Rally takes that basic formula and really ramps up the need to have a cohesive unit. Not only do the driver and co-driver have to put up with even more strenuous conditions, the techs and wrenches are much more vital to the team’s success. And when the first race of the season is Sno*Drift in Michigan, factoring in the frigid temperatures, snow and icy conditions just makes the tasks at hand exponentially that much more difficult. FY Racing is a three-car effort from Houghton, Michigan made up of a group of friends who were inspired to do the sideways thing by attending such events as the Lake Superior Performance Rally and Sno*Drift, and made their start in 2011, winning the LSPR and clutching Rally America’s Rookie Of The Year award. This video, of the 2015 Sno*Drift, captures life in the frozen forest stages as the team attempts to move beyond just finishing a race. The video quality is exceptionally good and we wish the team well throughout the season!
