GYMKHANA TEN: Ken Block’s Five-Location, Five-Machine Masterpiece

GYMKHANA TEN: Ken Block’s Five-Location, Five-Machine Masterpiece

The cars: A World Rally Car Ford Fiesta, a Ford Focus RS RX, a 1991 Ford Escort RS Cosworth that replaced the car that burned after an accident at the New England Forest Rally back in July, the Hoonicorn V2, the twin-turbocharged, all-wheel-drive 1965 Ford Mustang, and the newest creation, the Hoonitruck, a 1977 Ford F-150 that is packing the twin-turbo V6 straight from Ford’s GT LeMans effort, tuned to 914 horsepower and 702 ft/lbs of torque. The locations: Luleå, Sweden; Guanajuato, Mexico; Detroit, Los Angeles and Shamrock, Texas. The guests: Oliver Solberg, the sixteen-year-old Nordic Rallycross champion; Rob Dyrdek in a go-kart replica of the Cosworth; Aaron Kaufman in his bearded glory; a sasquatch in a Can Am on a crane, and Mr. 199 himself, Travis Pastrana.

Without a question, Gymkhana Ten has been a massive undertaking for the Hoonigan crew. This is a very ambitious movie, one that required years of planning, preparation, scouting, wrangling for permissions, and checking every last box to make sure that filming could commence, as well as the preparation for all five vehicles, including the special set of bare wheels for both the real Cosworth and it’s mini-me for the wicked spark show sections. As always, Block’s prowess behind the wheel shine, but we appreciate that tire smoke isn’t the only thing to appreciate. From the tunnel blasts in Guanajuato to the Route 66 feel in Texas, the scenes that were dreamed up for each vehicle fit to a T and the guests are perfectly selected for the location as well.

Art? Automotive porn? Whatever. This is what the Hoonigan team lives for, and when you have a passion for something and the ability to share it with the world, why would you hold back?
