There are few things that have mystified the automotive world over the last several years than Ford’s seemingly bizarre efforts to resurrect the moribund Lincoln brand. The advertising campaigns have been completely out in left field with some ads actually featuring imagery of Honest Abe himself. The most longstanding campaign that they have used centers around actor Matthew McConaughey driving around, staring off into space, and saying weird stuff that has left everyone scratching their heads. Is this supposed to be “deep”? Is the guy just stoned? What the hell is going on around here?
The hit FOX show “Family Guy” has joined other entities like Saturday Night Live in bagging on the weirdo ads and they did so in a hilarious clip from the Christmas Special that aired a short while ago. The best part of the whole thing is the “announcer” who ends the clip by saying, “Lincoln! What are we doing?” Someone with the company knows and that person may be the only one because no one else seems to be understanding any of this junk.
Is any of this stuff working for Lincoln? Not really, according to the sales numbers. The brand will move about 110,000 units in 2017 virtually the same as 2016 and virtually the same as it did in 2015. Hey, at least people are remembering the ads…just for the wrong reasons.
As good as Jim Carey ” rolling boogers” on SNL??? Tough call Brian
SNL stopped being funny at least 15 years ago.
Comedy utopia!
But -are you ready for this Brian – use whatever is in your power to watch (or on the internet) The League Of Gentlemen on BBC 2 10pm tonight (our time) There might not be any Lincolns in it but this is the creepiest comedy show of all time with the darkest ever humour. Even Peter Griffin would poop his shorts at this.
“Your’e my wife now Dave!”…….
Not bad, but check out Tommy Chong’s Lincoln spoof on YouTube!
