Holley LS Fest 2018: Our Coverage Comes To A Very Rainy End!

Well, everything has to come to an end, and so it goes for the 2018 Holley LS Fest. Sunday was the day of reckoning…we knew we had gotten lucky with two days of very decent weather, we knew that it was only a matter of time before the skies opened up and just straight dumped all over the parade, and as I drove into Beech Bend, I knew that the only thing that could be going on, if anything, was the 3S Challenge. It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve seen the autocrossers play in the water on the oval track, but the question was if they were even going to drive at all, given how hard the rain was coming down. It was one thing to pass security guards wearing plastic ponchos as I drove in, but to see cone shaggers standing in some surprisingly deep water as cars made passes dropped my jaw. Especially when I caught a glimpse of the water hazard that occupied the right lane just prior to the braking zone…it was pure rooster-tail city, with some cars treading lightly through, others using the oversized puddle as the perfect opportunity to clean up some of the undercarriage. For about forty-five minutes, there was a break in the showers and it looked like the day just might be salvageable after all…then the waterworks really kicked on and standing water levels started to creep up to the point where it was just the same few cars ripping through puddles for the hell of it…and one brave Corvette owner pushing through the genuinely deep water alongside the inside line of the oval fast enough to create a bow wave that had both Chad and I drop-jawed.

LS Fest is in the books, and we are looking forward to what both events will bring us in 2019. So, for now, enjoy the last gallery from Beech Bend!
