Formula 1 and NASCAR have insanely short tire changing times. It’s nuts how quickly they can change a wheel and tire, and while the right people are important to that, the tools and equipment are crucial. In the case of NASCAR, it’s all about the jack and the impact gun. Those two things make it possible for humans to push themselves to the limits because the tools can keep up. But nobody does a tire change quicker than a Formula 1 team. These guys do a four wheel tire change in less than 2 seconds, and part of that is because the impact guns they use spin at 11 jillion rpm.
In this video, the Torque Test Channel talks impacts and why the Formula 1 teams still use air powered impacts instead of cordless. But will they end up going to cordless before long? Watch this.

Today we take a look at a Formula 2 wheel gun and inside how an F1 wheel gun works to try and explain why some of those reasons might be and why it might go away some day.
