In Car Video Greatness: Ride Along With A Swedish Racer Piloting A V8 Swapped Volvo S40 On A Dirt And Asphalt Course

A Volvo you say?! Trust us on this one. The Volvo is just the wrapper for a totally sweet sounding hot rodded BMW V8 engine that is providing the tire shredding power that this little car has. Filmed in Sweden at a place called Kalix Motorstadion, this is three minutes of asphalt and dirt drifting with that screaming motor providing the sound track. There’s no blaring techno music, no fancy pants graphics or effects, and nothing to get in the way to watching a good driver get his groove on around this course.

The very interesting thing here is that the rallycross course is a combo of asphalt and dirt. We thought it was under construction or something  but in other photos we’ve seen, it appears the intention is to have the different surfaces on the same circuit. There are some pretty high banked paved corners, a couple of quick switchbacks on the dirt sections, and ample opportunity for the driver to burn tires, wrestle the wheel, and drift this car like a boss.

The car looks to be equipped with a sequentially shifted dog box style of transmission and that unit is what makes the great and industrial sounding whine from inside the car. While the whine is cool, the roar of the BMW V8 is absolutely fantastic. The boys in Sweden know how to build off the wall hot rods that handle and fill them with the correct number of cylinders. We love these guys!

It makes a change when someone uses their brain and doesn’t swap in a hunka shit LS!

There are a load of cool V8s in Europe right now that all put out more power than a stock LS – and they all have a mighty potential for tuning.

So – lets see a few more on these hallowed pages and less of that Chevy shite!

Hi Chevy Hatin Mad Geordie, hi just a question, you I’m assuming live in the UK? Just always been a little curious why you hate chevs living in England? Just thinking you wouldn’t maybe come into contact with many of them? I’m not trying to be funny or anything, just a question Ive always wondered.
