In Car Video Greatness: Watch A Racer In His 1966 GT350 Mustang Carve Up A Vintage Road Racing Field In England

There are few things more fun to watch than a well tuned vintage race car in the hands of a talented driver. This video is an example of just that as racer Craig Davies handles a 1966 Mustang GT350 like an artist with a brush during a vintage road racing event at Brands Hatch road course in England. Apparently, during qualifying Davies suffered a flat tire and was relegated to the 17th position. You’ll see almost instantly that this is a dude who is exponentially faster than 17th. In fact, he starts slicing and dicing his way through the field as soon as the green flag drops.

Outside of the coolness of watching Davies row the four speed and man handle the car around, there’s the sound of the very tightly wound 289 which provides the go power for the classic Shelby ‘Stang. Davies passes Camaros like they’s chained to stumps. He swats Corvettes off light flies. The little weenie European stuff is fly swatted aside during his charge to the front and Davies even manages to blow off a Chrysler product early in the video.  All the while, the four speed is getting worked like a spatula in a bowl of brownie mix. Stir man…stir!

The old school wide racing rear view mirror may be a tip to its origins, but other than that we’re not sure. We do know that the car retains the stock door handles, interior panels, dash, etc. It also really, really hauls ass. We watch lots of videos, obviously and this is one of a handful that actually had us saying, “We want to be that guy!” during the duration of the footage. The right guy, in the right car, on the right track. It’s truly a beautiful thing.

Thanks to Arild for the tip!

THAT was one of the best starts I have ever seen !

Almost perfectly geared, that motor on the powerband at all times and superb consistent laps.

    Thanks for the post !

I’ve always been Drag Racing man, grown up with it. But this event was the first circuit racing i’d seen, and watching that car go round brands was amazing. And i very nearly converted there and then. The fact that i had a White 4 speed 289 Fastback sitting behind the stands might have helped!

Convert, do it! I am a converted drag racer, had an 06 GTO running bottom 11’s. Swapped out tires, brakes, adjust the susp, and took the same car road racing, there really isn’t a comparison! It is 11 seconds of action, compared to 20+ minutes of action.
