Jim Pace has been our adopted road racing boss here at BangShift for years. This video may be his crowning one here on these electronic pages. Why? You are about to watch the man take one of the most challenging road racing cars you can think of, on one of the most challenging circuits in the world, in some of the most wildly horrid conditions ever, and haul ass with it. Yes, Jim Pace is in a 911 RSR Porsche road racing car. Yes, Jim Pace is the guy you see in the lead photo looking though an impossibly opaque broken windshield while slicing and dicing at speed with other Porsche racers. Balls? It clanks when he walks.
There are some people who love racing in the rain. Michael Schumacher was famously incredible at it. We do not know Jim’s position on this topic but we do know that he’s about as skilled a guy as you can think of behind the wheel of any sort of corner turning competition vehicle. Is this fun for a guy like him? Is it frustrating? Worrying? We’re guessing that on this level, you have to really park your emotions lest you start to drive with them, make mistakes, and wreck your stuff. Or someone else’s stuff as the case is here.
It takes guts to do any type of racing, it does. This is way beyond that though. To actually go out there and RACE, not just make parade laps in these conditions is about a big a test of someone’s skills, fortitude, and decision making as exists in road racing.
This guy is a boss.
