Morning Symphony: The Big Red Camaro Ripping Up Pikes Peak, Post-Conflagration!

Morning Symphony: The Big Red Camaro Ripping Up Pikes Peak, Post-Conflagration!

Last summer, the first-gen F-body known as the Big Red Camaro very nearly came to the end of the road. After a fuel leak turned into a major fire while testing out at Buttonwillow Raceway, we wondered if RJ Gottleib’s monster was even coming back to life, or if the fire had finished the car off once and for all. While the autopsy photographs looked grim, the good news was that the Camaro wasn’t done, so the team that supports the car got to work on bringing it back to life, and what a job they did. Back, badder than ever and with a new 555ci mill specifically built for Pikes Peak, the Camaro is back to it’s all-out speed glory. It ran the mountain to the tune of 11:08.857, a very respectable time, but more importantly, it sounded absolutely boss while doing it. It might be a bit of speculation, but we have a suspicion that if you stood in the intersection of Nevada and Platte in Colorado Springs and looked to the mountain, you would’ve heard the Camaro echoing throughout the Southern Front Range.
