Morning Symphony: The Gillet Vertigo GT3 – Ride Along As It Rips Around Spa!

Morning Symphony: The Gillet Vertigo GT3 – Ride Along As It Rips Around Spa!

The one interesting thing about Gran Turismo video games is that it introduced players to cars that they thought had to be pure fantasy. I’ll admit, I was suckered. The Suzuki Escudo? Surely Suzuki never made any SUV that blisteringly fast…oh, they did. And they took it to Pikes Peak. And it’s got all-wheel-drive and a thousand horsepower. Well…damn, okay then. The TVR Speed 12? You can’t control the damned thing in the game, surely to God the real thing wasn’t this bad? Oh, wait…the car was so bat-shit mental that the engine broke the dyno under testing, and when then-owner of TVR Peter Wheeler drove a finished prototype home, he managed to scare himself so bad that he had the project cancelled. That was the genius of the game…players learned so much about cars other than the typical flavor at the local cruise-in.

Now, bring in a small manufacturer called Gillet. They’ve been around as a company more-or-less since 1992, based out of Belgium, and are a built-to-order kind of machine. There’s plenty of body options, cabin options, and even engine options, from a pretty solid Ford Cosworth four-cylinder to a 4.2L V8 found in Ferraris and Maseratis. Vertigos are meant to handle first and foremost…Tony Gillet, the namesake founder, is an accomplished racer who can appreciate a well-sorted car.

You’re going to ride in a Vertigo GT3 racing machine around Spa in this video, with driver Renaud Kuppens at the wheel. Be very quiet…this one is hunting Porsches!
