Spectator drags…you have to love ’em for the simple fact that it doesn’t take much for two guys with egos to step up and come out onto the track to play. There is always the risk involved in bringing out some novices onto a short-track oval, but Seekonk Speedway has a group of racers that actually tend to make this work! In a field that seems to be composed of fourth-gen F-bodies, V8 swapped S-trucks and a lot of variety in the “other” category that sees everything from hard-charging rally rockets and howling Hondas to Mercedes-Benz sedans and more. What is surprising as you watch this collection from 2018 is that these guys aren’t racing like absolute asses…there are incidents but it’s not dudes PIT-maneuvering each other. The racers that are coming out to play are actually properly racing in their one or two-lap sprints.
Don’t disregard this video just because you’ve already made up your mind due to the “spectator drag” image in your head. Where else are you going to watch a Nissan NX200 school a late-model Mustang and a Trans Am? Where else will you see a Fiero holeshot and lead over anything V8 and rear-driven? Trust us…this is good stuff, and not in the “who is getting wrecked this lap?” type of good. Any day we see a Jeep Cherokee putting the hurt on anything in a race is a good day!
Its nice to see the spectator drags getting some publicity. Hopefully this brings in some new faces, but that vw though?
