Morning Symphony: The Unholy Thrashing Of A Group A Subaru Legacy

Morning Symphony: The Unholy Thrashing Of A Group A Subaru Legacy

When Group B racing got closed down at the end of the 1986 racing season, the Group A category became the next wildest category to watch. More cars were required for homologation and the mental power modifications and drivetrain layouts that defined Group B were a no-go. But by the 1990s, Group A cars were on par with the Group B cars performance-wise, without the racing wizardry and trickery. These were closer to a production car than any Group B racer could claim to be and while they will not have the cachet of being included in one of the most legendary periods in motorsports, the reality is that you can have just as much fun in one from the driver’s seat if you are capable of driving one. Totò Riolo is one such individual and his Subaru Legacy RS Rally is one such machine. The footage you will see is from the 2017 Motor Show of Bologna and shows off every aspect of the Legacy in action: sideways, airborne, powering through turns, and even an in-car cam that will allow you to watch Riolo’s footwork as he hustles the Scooby around the course against an Audi in a head-to-head rally shootout:
