Big Car Brawl: The New BMW 7-Series Is Geared Up To Take The Fight To Its German Brethren

(By Tom Lohnes) – The BMW 7-Series has long been second fiddle  to the Mercedes-Benz S class. With the new generation of S-class rolling out now and already being recalled due to failure of the electric power steering system, the 7-series has it’s time to shine. A new generation is coming out, and it sure is a lot to take in.

Embracing the squared-off front fascia from the X7 SUV, headlights from the current 5-series, and the pair of lungs that sit on the front of the new BMW 4-series, this big sedan will not be a looker from the front. Good news however, is that standard 6, 8, and even 12-cylinder engine options will be available along with an array of hybrid and electric powertrains. There are no interior photos of the new 7 yet, but expect the great build quality BMW is known for along with some intricate stitching and supple leathers. Performance isn’t its main goal, but the current-gen 7-series by far outperforms the current S-class, Audi A8/S8, and even Bentley models with much higher price tags than it. The new all-electric 7-series will be the range-topping model and will reportedly produce more than 650 horsepower.

So, if you want a luxobarge, I would say the current 7-series is the one to get at the moment. But we’ll see how the next gen performs, and hopefully the experience outshines the front-end.
