Nurburgring Has Lost The 2015 German Grand Prix To Hockenheimring

This is a bit of an eye-opener. After Capricorn took over the operations of the Nurburgring, it seemed that the infamous track’s problems were finally starting to be taken care of. However, it was announced that the 2015 German Grand Prix will not be held at Nurburgring, but instead at Hockenheimring. Previously, the tracks alternated hosting the event every year, but Capricorn confirmed to German newspaper The Bild: “There is no contract. As for what Bernie Ecclestone is discussing with the Hockenheimring, we cannot comment.”

Ecclestone told Reuters, “It (the German GP) is going to be at Hockenheim, we’re in the middle of doing something with them. It can’t be Nurburgring because there’s nobody there. We’ve got a contract in place (with Hockenheim), we just have to amend the years of the contract. It was alternating with Nurburgring so we’ll just take that out.”

Whether or not the German GP returns to Nurburgring will depend upon Capricorn’s deal with Russian billionaire Viktor Kharitonin, which is currently in an unknown status after he agreed to purchase two-thirds of Capricorn and made two payments for Capricorn.
