Here’s a nifty little piece of 1970s goodness for you. This is a double feature that start with a film called, “Power to Stop” which talks about Chevrolet braking systems in 1974 and how bad ass they are. From front discs to hydro boost we get the goods on how GM has been killing the braking game at this point in history. There’s also some neat information in there about how a “central computer” at GM would decide which braking package your car or truck needed based on the GVW of said vehicle. It’s one of the most out there sales pitches we have heard but it sounds good to the buying public, right?
The second half of the film talks about the 1974 Chevelle wagons, their options, optional engines, and all of that thing. These cars are super cool and we see exactly none of them anywhere. We know that it wasn’t too high on anyone’s list to save old station wagons when they weren’t that old, but damn they are rare. We have never seen one with a 350 3-speed which is, according to the video, the base drivetrain these cars were sold with. The 400ci small block was optional, and the 454ci big block with dual exhaust was the top of the chain.
We hated the styling of thee cars for a long time but now we’re kind of into it. We’re getting old.
Both the wagon and elcamino was the normal to see here in Europe in the late 70s. Just to bad rust ate them all. I have had at least 5 elcaminos and a wagon myself. They handel and drive Real Nice, better than most Think. But prone to rust out killed the most of them.
