Pro Tested, Pro Abused: What Will 36 Laps Of WFO Action At The Nurburgring Do To A BMW M4?

Ever hear the old joke about the fastest car in the world being a rental car with the walk-away insurance paid for? Well…it’s legit. Not that I personally know anything about that….*achoo* 140+ MPH in a Hyundai Sonata *sniff*…but we’re sure you can use your imagination about burnouts in Chargers and the stuff that’s done to rented pickup trucks. But have you ever looked at those setups where you can rent a sports car or an exotic and you have that little demon on your shoulder start to smile? Formula 1 driver Robert Kubica recently did just that. He popped in and effectively rented a BMW M4, then hit the Nurburgring Nordschliefe course thirty-six times. Yeah…thirty-six laps at full freaking chat in a modified BMW M4. It could be a DTM car, a fully prepared machine, and 36 laps at the Ring will break shit. This M4 didn’t have a prayer…Kubica not only has F1 experience, but he also has rally experience. So one way or another, he was going to be just fine.

Now, here’s a fun thing to inspect: just what did the car suffer after such a beating? Obviously the tires and brakes were first-rate shot after 470 miles of a top-flight ragging out, but what else happened to the BMW that needed to be addressed after such a grand tour through the German countryside? The first video is a ride-along on a hot lap. The second video is the forensic analysis of the after-effects.
