Later this week I will detail the adventure Nutting and I had riding in rally cars with professional drivers through the New Hampshire. Today however we’re here to show you something that a maniac came up with and named Rally Kart which we are now kind of obsessed with. The equation is pretty simple, really. You take a powerful two stroke engine and bolt it to a go kart chassis, put a helmet on, and then drive at blinding speeds over dirt or gravel roads. Of course the real fun comes in the corners and the guy driving this thing drifts them all like a freaking boss.
One of the parts of the rally experience that Nutting and I had was spending a few hours with the instructors at the vaunted Team O’Neil rally school learning some of the basic techniques that rally drivers employ to live…errr…we mean win races. We’e not sure how those things would apply to a little go kart with power like this one has but we’d love to try them out! The driver in this video can wheel pretty hard. The way he brakes and sets the karts up for the long drifting turns and the way that he applies the power to it and at what time are all marks of someone who knows what the hell they are doing on a loose surface.
Driving go-karts on asphalt is the way that the best racers in the world learn the skills that propel them to international stardom. We have no idea if rally karts could do that for aspiring rally pilots but we do know that few things on Earth look as fun as this!

Great – I’ve just watched the video and I was expecting the barking lunatic to drive it into a tree at 70mph. Seriously though it looks like great fun – but only with better roll-over protection and a titanium jockstrap…
Leave it to Bangshift–I literally did a “rally kart” online search about a month ago, figuring that it had to be happening in an organized fashion somewhere in the world. Guess not, but it looks pretty awesome!
I’m in! I already have the kart for the job too.
