Rally Video: Chris Harris Takes On An R-GT Prepared Porsche 911 In Wales

Porsche and rally racing actually have a long and successful past, with technological advancements culminating in the creation of the 959, one of the baddest Porsches ever made. If you need any more convincing, the 959’s original project code was Gruppe B. The all-wheel-drive sociopath from Stuttgart was indeed meant to go play in Group B, but by the time the 959 was ready the series had been shut down, and Porsche was focusing more on road racing and LeMans by then.

Since then there really hasn’t been much ado over a Porsche in rally apart from a random entry here or there. But with the creation of Group R-GT, a class where the individual’s vehicle is given a technical passport instead of a modeled layout like a traditional WRC car, FIA hopes to attract a wider array of cars and privateer drivers. One such privateer is Richard Tuthill, who built up a 997 RS 4.0 Cup car into a rally bomber. He then though it would be a good idea to let Harris at the wheel. You’ve seen him on asphalt, but what about on gravel in a Porsche? Click play below to see how he does.
