Randy Pobst Provides Another Lesson For The Racer: Passing – When To Do It, What It Takes, And What You As The Driver Need To Provide

Randy Pobst Provides Another Lesson For The Racer: Passing – When To Do It, What It Takes, And What You As The Driver Need To Provide

Passing…the art of proving to someone else on a racecourse that you are better than them. There are right ways to pass someone, and there are wrong ways to pass someone. Anyone who has ever gone to a track day where they allow multiple cars on-track and don’t require wave-arounds needs this lesson. Period, point-effing-blank. Why, you’re probably angrily asking?

(A): Because you are being taught a valuable skill by Motor Trend’s in-house hot shoe (and highly accomplished racing driver) Randy Pobst, and

(B): because if one more jack-hole in a (fill in the blank) cuts me off in Turn Five one more time, I’m gonna PIT maneuver their ass into the sand trap.

Ok, that’s a joke, but the truth is that if your local track will let racers actually run, you need to have the knowledge and skill to properly run so that everyone on track can have a good, competitive time and that nobody ends up in the grass, gravel, wall, or worse. This isn’t Gran Turismo or Forza…you don’t just bounce off another car and keep going. Pobst has driven in touring car races, where that actually seems to be a viable method of driving, but given his broad spectrum of experience, just listen to the man and follow his advice. Trust us, Professor Pobst knows best.

Randy is an awesome guy. I used to run some events in south Florida, had some track time with him although in different classes. He also did a test day with me in my E/P car at Moroso, great driver for sure.
