Ride Along As RM Sotheby’s Gets A Rare Opportunity To Drive A Jaguar C-Type Works Lightweight In The Hills Of Oregon

It is a rare piece, that’s for sure…only three of them were made as a response to Mercedes-Benz’s 300SL entries at LeMans. It packed 220hp in 1953, a fairly substantial figure, but the straight-six engine sat in an aluminum-bodied car. It had hydraulic disc brakes, a novelty then, and it was completely no-frills, with the sensation of driving a race car and the noise of that six cylinder being the rewards. This 1953 Jaguar C-Type Works Lightweight is the second car out of the three and finished fourth overall at the 1953 LeMans. And it is out on a leisurely drive in the forests of Oregon, in another one of Petrolicious’s beautifully-shot videos. RM Sotheby’s, the auction house that will sell the car in August at Monterey, sent David Swig to drive the car so that he could develop impressions of how the car behaves. Mr. Swig, with a tinge of jealousy, we sincerely hope you enjoyed your drive.
