Watch This NASCAR Small Block Get Pulled Six Times In A Row To 9,700 RPM As A Race Simulation

We show you high RPM dyno pulls with frequency around here because they are awesome. Who does not love the sound of an engine turning in the upper reaches of the four digit zone and into the five digit RPM neighborhood. If you do not like those sounds, you are clearly at the wrong website. Of the things that love about those big pulls are the typical lack of flying rods, fire, and all of the other negatives that come from testing the strength and quality of all the pieces inside the block. The big difference between the typical “big rpm” pull and what is happening here is the fact that this engine gets ripped to 9,700 SIX TIMES IN A ROW without stopping. Why? It was a brief simulation of what happens at places like Bristol Motor Speedway when lots of gear and a short track mean that the motor will be on an up-and-down roller coaster ride of abuse for 500 miles.

During the recent NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals I lucked into the passenger seat of a ride-along stock car which zipped me around the banked bread bowl of a race track at Bristol in fine fashion. While we were not going as fast as the car that this engine will power goes, it was a great insight into what it is like to spend some time on that banking and doing it with some speed behind you. The engine in the car I was in was turning about 6500 on the straights and less in the corners. It is designed to live for months (years?) at a time and give people rides, not win races. This engine is designed to slaughter and lay waste to everything in front of it.

We’ve seen some cool stuff on the dyno before but this is among the coolest things we have ever showed you. Just cranking the thing to 9,700 six times in a row and ending up with a happy engine would cause us to weep with joy. For these guys? It is just another day at the office and after they checked the plugs, maybe it went another 50x.
