It is Monday which means that the weekend is just hours behind us in the rear view mirror. That also means that you’re probably sitting at the office day dreaming about junk rather than actually doing work. It is OK, we do the same thing. This video should serve as fodder for some of those day dreams because we’re going to put you on the back of one of the best looking and sounding race cars of all time, a Lola T-70. We’ve showed you videos of classic Lolas getting busy at the races, but this one is neat in the fact that it was taken during some tune up laps at Road America at an Historic Sportscar Racing event last year. The driver of the car is David Hinton and you’ll be as jealous of him as we are when you get a load of the machine he’s piloting.
The Lola T-70 was developed for Can Am racing in the middle 1960s and while it was successful, it is more remembered for its amazing looks than its huge race wins. Powered mostly by Chevrolets, there were Ford and even an Aston Martin version out there. In fact, Dan Gurney won the only race for a Ford powered T-70 in 1966. The McLarens were the dominant car of their day, but the Lolas were there to at least push them hard. We know that race cars are primarily judged by how many wins and championships they accrued, but let’s be honest, the T-70 will live on in racing lore forever because….well, just look at it!
