Saying Goodbye To The Ford Falcon At Bathurst The Right Way…Racing It With A Mustang And A GT!

Saying Goodbye To The Ford Falcon At Bathurst The Right Way…Racing It With A Mustang And A GT!

Put the final nail in the coffin, the Ford Falcon is utterly dead as a new car goes in Australia. When the folks at Bathurst are saying their final farewells to a car that has deeper roots than it ever did in the United States market, that’s when you know the fat lady has sung. We hate it for the Aussies…wicked sedans and utes were the norm, now it’s small diesel trucks, imported Mustangs and Opels pretending to be a Commodore, and Chryslers…we think they still sell the 300 SRT over there. Right?

Bathurst 2018 went down last week and their tribute to the 14-time winner of Australia’s most famous race was to bring in Ryan Briscoe in a Ford GT LeMans-spec racer and DJR Team Penske driver Tony D’Alberto in a GT4-spec Mustang and to pit them against Alex Davison in a Ford Falcon FG-X Supercar. Part of this was a time challenge, to showcase the difference between the cars. The other was to say goodbye to the Falcon and to welcome in the Mustang, which will replace the Mustang in Supercars for 2019, where it will butt heads against the only V8 Commodore ZB model found in the whole country. Farewell, indeed.
