Scalpel, Meet Sledgehammer: A Dakar Kamaz And A Drift-Set RX-8 Meet Up In Russia

Mike Whiddett has the nickname “Mad Mike” for a reason. His penchant for taking rotary-powered Mazdas and flinging them as far sideways as he dares is something to behold. His RX-8, known as BADBUL, is packing a 20B three-rotor and a turbocharger that will pump out 800 horsepower or so. In 2016, Lord March hopped in the passenger seat so that Whiddett could drive him up the course at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Part of the car is it’s power, the other part is it’s point-precision. Whiddett is comfortable with the car, more so than his wild MX-5 builds.

What doesn’t leave Whiddett comfortable is running a tandem drift with a Kamaz Dakar truck. We’ve shown you what these behemoths can do before. Eduard Nikolaev can whip the Kamaz 4326 rig around like his life depends on it, swinging nearly ten tons of Russian heavyweight around with the same kind of skill. For Nikolaev, this is just another day at the office. For Whiddett, this is something to behold, a clench-worthy moment that had to be very unnerving to experience!
