The year before I graduated from university, I almost made a very interesting purchase: a tube-frame kart packing the 200 horsepower, 2.5L V6 from a Ford Contour SVT in a rear-mount setup. In Arizona, so long as the vehicle met minimum safety guidelines and had been inspected, it could be plated and driven on the highways, and what says powerslides, off-road hijinks and general jackass driving thoughtful fuel-economy minded motoring like a featherweight buggy that would only really be driven around the local Prescott area? Made good sense to me at the time, but that purchase didn’t take place because the seller wound up trading the buggy in for some kind of Hyundai, Kia or something off of the used lot and the rolling testament to bad decisions was picked up in a matter of minutes afterwards.
Now, thanks to the Internet, I have an even more tempting option on the table. Luckily for me, the bank account does not approve of such a purchase and if I brought it home, this might be the last column I’d ever write, but that means one of you lucky readers could snatch this creation up. You know about the Ariel Atom…the tube-frame go-kart from the U.K. capable of turning Jeremy Clarkson’s face to a human-shaped blob of Nickelodeon slime? Yeah…that was packing a Honda-sourced four cylinder. This ain’t.
