It’s not a LeBaron. We mean, it is a LeBaron but it isn’t. A weirdly delayed failure by Chrysler to score some points in the luxury car market, these late 1980s, early 1990s cars were just destined to fail from the start. Seriously. Outside of the “handmade” bodies from Italy, a weirdly plush interior, no back seat, and some badges, this was the same Chrysler LeBaron that people bought for half the price. But here’s the thing.
Aren’t the “mistake” cars, the fun ones? Aren’t they the cars that we love to kind of celebrate and remember? Aren’t they the ones that car dorks like us revel in knowing stuff about? Yes, all that stuff is true. The cars that were not good, poorly planned, and ultimately sales failures are the cars that we all kind of like to remember. No one cares about a LeBaron from 1990 but when you want to talk about the Chrysler TC by Maserati, there will be listening.
This is our favorite Regular Car Reviews video ever. A slightly off guy talking about a slightly off car is synergistically great. We dig this video. And yes, we know guys who own these things. Hell, we know a guy who land speed raced one of these things! Everyone has their automotive love, even if it’s the wrong one.
